Welcome:
Hi! I'm Ms. Hidalgo and I welcome you to my English class at Belmont High School. I have been teaching English at Belmont since 2006 and I really enjoy making authentic connections with my students, reading wonderful literature, emphasizing the importance of education, and guiding students as best as I can to reach their full potential. My Family: Both of my parents immigrated to Los Angeles from Ecuador when they were young: my mom was nine and my dad was fifteen. They met while attending L.A. High School and were soon married thereafter. I am the middle child; I have an older brother who loves politics and civil service and a younger sister who is all about fashion. I am now married myself to my husband of six years, Jaime, who is from Oaxaca, Mexico. We met at Griffith Park Pool during my Lifeguard years. We have two gorgeous daughters, Rubi (6) and Camila (1 1/2), and a beautiful baby boy, James (2 months.) My Interests: Cafecito, hot and iced Swimming Being Outdoors in the early evenings Fresh Breeze Dancing, Zumba Kickboxing Cardio/Muay Thai Boot Camp Workouts Milk Chocolate with Almonds or Walnuts Fresh Croissants or Pan Dulce Movies esp. Romantic or Romantic Comedies (The Notebook, Crazy Stupid Love, Pretty Women, Because I Said So, etc...) Ryan Gosling Music- R&B Soul, Golden Oldies, Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Cumbia, Hip Hop/Pop, Alternative Rock, Traveling Lunch Dates with Friends Shopping Reading Fiction Going to the Beach My Education: I attended private Catholic school from grades 1-12. Christ the King School in Hollywood was where I attended my Elementary and Jr. High years, and Immaculate Heart High School is where I graduated from high school. I feel that I was very fortunate to be enrolled at such challenging and rigorous schools where I was prepared to excel in college. For my Bachelor's Degree, I attended Cal State University Northridge, where I pursued English as my major. I then decided that I wanted to teach literature and I decided to earn my Teaching Credential and Master's Degree at UCLA. Go Bruins! I am currently taking a hiatus from being a student because I have two small children who are my main focus, but soon, I will return to grad school to obtain either an Administrator's Credential or a Ph. D in English. I have yet to decide. |
